John Vincent Scalia, Sr. is a business entrepreneur, community leader, volunteer chairperson, board member, fundraiser, humanitarian and philanthropist. He has an over 40-years strong career in the Staten Island community.John is the founder and licensed funeral director of the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. which handles over 500 funerals a year. John attended Port Richmond High School, Staten Island Community College, New York School of Insurance and American Academy of Funeral Services and Dodge Institute of Mortuary Science.In 1980, he founded A Family Florist which later merged to become Kitty’s& Family Florist and in 1988, he founded A Family Limousine Service. Both of these businesses also provide services that compliment his funeral home. In 1987, he opened The Historic Old Bermuda Inn – (Restaurant and Catering Facility). John’s Professional Organizations include the International Order of the Golden Rule; National Funeral Directors Association, New York State Funeral Directors Association and the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association .John prides himself in giving back to his community with endeavors that are endless. As one of the founders and, past presidents of Meals on Wheels of S.I., John designed the smaller-sized trucks that are used to deliver the meals as well as the truck logo. Since 1984, John has been called upon by Project Hospitality, Social Service Agencies, Churches and other Island agencies, to arrange dignified funeral services for the homeless and/or indigent. His restaurant The Historic Old Bermuda Inn has served 80-100 people each Sunday Evening at the St Paul’s Soup Kitchen for the past 7 years.John serves on Community Agency for Senior Citizens (CASC) Board of Directors, and was Chairman of the Board and Treasurer. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees for the following organizations; Richmond Senior Services; Richmond University Medical Center.John is a founding member and past Chairman of the Board of Pax Christi Hospice; Past President of St. Clare’s Men’s Club; Past Treasurer of the Board of Richmond Home Needs; Founder of the Taste of Staten Island (Eger Nursing Home); and past Board member of Eger Nursing Home Foundation; Eger Nursing Home Board of Trustees. It was his vision along with Patricia Farrington to bring the Hospice Residence to Eger’s Grounds. Richmond Home Needs; Richmondtown Restoration; S.I. Unit Boys Scouts of America; Cystic Fibrosis Association, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross; South Shore Y.M.C.A.; Foster Grandparents; and Visiting Nurse Association of Staten Island, and Past President of the Westerleigh Tennis Club.His awards and achievements are numerous and include the S.I. Chamber of Commerce Buildings Award for Structural Design, Craftsmanship and Excellence for his funeral home; John has been honored by the Federation of Italian American Organization; American Cancer Society; Y.M.C.A; Foster Grandparents Program; Meals on Wheels of Staten Island; Project Hospitality; S.I. Miller Leadership Award by the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce.John lives in Pleasant Plains with his wife, Cecilia. They have one son, John Vincent Scalia, Jr.; one daughter, Cecilia Ann Scalia-Moran and 5 grandchildren.

John Vincent Scalia Jr. is the son of the owner and founder, John Vincent Scalia Sr. John is a graduate of St. Clare Grammar School in Great Kills and of Monsignor Farrell High School. He earned his Bachelor's in Science Degree from Villanova University. . He began his career working for Morgan Stanley in NYC. He then attended the American Academy McAllsiter Institute of Funeral Service in Manhattan where he graduated Summa Cum Laude . He has three children. John currently serves on the Board of University Hospice, Catholic Charities of S.I.Sunrise Day Camp Advisory Board. He is a past Coach/ Director of the St. Joseph Thomas's Basketball Program where John and his family are parishioners of. He is also a speaker on the Dangers of Opioid Abuse for the Staten Island District Attorney's Office. John is licensed in both New York and New Jersey.

Cecilia Scalia-Moran - License # 4749, Manager / Owner/ Funeral Director Licensed in NY & NJ
Cecilia Ann Scalia Moran is the daughter of the owner and founder, John Vincent Scalia Sr. Cecilia is a graduate of St. Clare Grammar School in Great Kills and of St Joseph by the Sea High School. She attended Seton Hall University and then began her career working for the NYC Department of Finance. She then attended the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in Manhattan where she excelled in Cosmetology and Restorative Art. She is married to Kevin Moran and has two daughters and three granddaughters. Cecilia is a past Board member of St Joseph By The Sea Family Association, and Richmond Senior Services, the Executive Board of St Joseph St Thomas Family Association, where she is a parishioner. Cecilia was honored as first inductee into the St. Joseph by The Sea Alumni Hall of Fame. In addition to her duties as a Licensed Funeral Director, Cecilia is the Chief Financial Officer for both the Funeral Home and the Historic Old Bermuda Inn. She also is the director of our After Care program as well as the director of our Annual Memorial Tree Lighting Service. Cecilia is licensed in both New York and New Jersey and currently Serves as our Manager.

Kevin G. Moran - License # 4484, Licensed in NY & NJ
Kevin G. Moran has been with the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, since 1989. Kevin holds the title of CFSP, (Certified Funeral Service Practitioner), which is one of the most prestigious titles in the Funeral Profession. Kevin needed to complete numerous hours of Continuing Education as well as a strong commitment to public service to attain and hold this distinction. Kevin also is a Certified Funeral Service Celebrant. In addition to his role as a funeral director, Kevin also was a instructor at the American Academy Mc Allister Institute of Funeral Service since 2000 as an Adjunct both on Campus and with the On Line Program the school offers. Kevin is a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Staten Island Council, and Member of Ancient Order of Hibernians; Division 4, where he served as President of the Irish Building Fund and received first ever Irishman of the Year Award. Kevin was also feted as Chief Brehan at the Staten Island Irish Fair. Kevin is Board member of The Catholic Cemetery Guild, and the Metropolitan Funeral Directors Association. Kevin served on the Board of Trustees at St. Joseph Hill Academy and is on the Board of Directors at St. Joseph by the Sea High School. He served on the Board of the Family Association at St. Joseph by the Sea, and was President from 2001-2009. He served on the Building Committee for the New St. Thomas the Apostle Church and as Co Chair of the Major Gifts Campaign of Holy Child Church’s Building Campaign. Kevin is a member of the New York State Funeral Directors Association, the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association and the Middlesex/Monmouth Funeral Directors Association. A native of Queens, Kevin Graduated St. Francis College in Brooklyn with a BS in Business Management with concentrations in Finance and Marketing. Kevin and his wife Cecilia have two daughters and 3 grandchildren Kevin is licensed in New York as well as in New Jersey and is also a Notary Public. Kevin serves as Manager of our Matawan location.

Shannon E. Walters, a native Staten Islander and first generation Funeral Director,has been with the Scalia Family since 2007, after graduating from Curtis High School she worked as an LPN from 1992-1999. She then furthered her education by attending the American Academy McAllsiter Institute of Funeral Service, graduating in 2000. First Working in New Jersey to obtain her New Jersey Funeral Directors License she returned to New York in 2007 to obtain her New York License. She resides in Staten Island with her Fiancé Brian and her two son’s Brian and Liam.

Jeremiah J. Bullen - License # 5103, Licensed Funeral Director NJ, NY & PA
When Jeremiah was 15 he began his career in Funeral Service. Working for his Uncle at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals Jeremiah started by cleaning cars and sweeping the parking lot. During this time of working through the ranks Jeremiah began to discover his desire to become a Funeral Director. After graduating from Moore Catholic High School Jeremiah attended the Bloomsburg University. Jeremiah continued his studies, enrolling at American Academy McAllister Institute studying Mortuary Science. In 2000 Jeremiah graduated AAMI, completed his apprenticeship and finally realized his dream of being a Funeral Director. For the next 7 years Jeremiah worked tirelessly helping the families he served remember the lives of those they loved and lost. In 2007 Jeremiah became a consultant with Batesville, the worlds largest manufacturer/supplier of Caskets and other memorial products. As part of Jeremiah's position with Batesville he trained Funeral Directors on making funeral arrangements and better assisting the families that they serve. Jeremiah is happy to be back working with his family and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and ability to help serve the families of our community. Jeremiah is a parishioner of St. Ambrose Church, 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Ambrose Council 6424, a member of the Old Bridge-Sayreville-South Amboy Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh Old Bridge, as well as a member of the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association and the Middlesex-Somerset Funeral Directors Association.Jeremiah is married to Tara Bullen, whom he met while attending Mortuary School. They have 2 children Madelyn and Emma as well as a dog, Stella.

Megan C. Moran-McEvilly - #5276, Funeral Director, Licensed in NY and NJ
Megan Moran-McEvilly is the eldest child of Cecilia and Kevin Moran, and the third generation to join the family business. After graduating from St. Joseph by the Sea High School, Megan was accepted into and attended the prestigious Verrazano Business School at the College of Staten Island. She then switched her Major to Funeral Service Administration at St. John’s University. In 2010 she graduated American Academy McAllsiter Institute of Funeral Service. Having worked in the family business’ since high school, she understands the importance of service. Megan wears many hats at the funeral home, in addition to her duties as a Licensed Funeral Director in New York, she is responsible for the majority of marketing and advertising, she helps coordinate our After Care and Tree Lighting Service, she serves as office manager and is responsible for the creation and oversight of our firms Website.

Peter J. McEvilly, a native Staten Islander started his career with us as a young apprentice in 2006. His interest and dedication to the profession led him to attain a Bachelors Degree from St. John’s University in Funeral Service Administration, after graduating from Monsignor Farrell High School. He then furthered his education by attending the American Academy McAllsiter Institute of Funeral Service, graduating in 2010. A lifelong parishioner of Holy Child Church, he is also a member of Stolzenthaler Council of the Knights of Columbus. Peter now teaches at the American Academy McAllsiter Institute in both their campus and on line programs. He is married to Megan Moran, granddaughter of the founder.

Janine is a life-long resident of Old Bridge, New Jersey. She graduated from Old Bridge High School then furthered her education earning a business degree from Brookdale Community College. Janine attended Mercer College, to complete her degree in Funeral Service. Janine has always had the desire to help people, she was a volunteer for the Old Bridge Red and White First Aid Squad. Janine enjoys spending time with her family and especially her nephew and nieces, baking and walking her dog. Janine has an intrinsic drive for the Funeral Service business and is excited for her future here.
