Ida E. Olano

Ida E. Olano, 91 of Toms River, New Jersey went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 29, 2020, surrounded by the love of her family. 'Idalove', as she was known by those who knew her, was born in 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Nicholas and Philomena Montemarano. Special enough to enjoy two birthdays, Ida celebrated on both August 22nd, the date on her birth certificate, and August 27th, the day her mother swore she was born. Ida grew up in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, NY surrounded by her beloved siblings. She attended Lafayette High School and went on to meet the love of her life, Martin, at Coney Island after his return from the navy. The young lovebirds began a courtship and would go on to marry on January 28th,1950. They eventually moved to Staten Island in 1965 to raise their own family. Ida worked with the NYPD as a Police Administrative Aide at the 122nd precinct on Staten Island. While living on Staten Island, Ida was a member at Gateway Cathedral. After retiring from the NYPD, Ida and Martin moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1987 where she took pride in her work as an administrative aide at the Del E. Webb Construction Company. After spending six years making frequent cross-country trips to shower love and gifts upon her grandchildren, Ida and Martin would move back to the NY/NJ area to be closer to their family. Upon her return, Ida went back to work as a sales associate at Steinbach Department Store and then later on, The Bon-Ton. A dedicated and hard-working employee, Ida achieved accolades as the top Ralph Lauren sales associate and was frequently recognized as Employee of the Month. In her spare time, Ida enjoyed traveling, especially taking road trips with her family. In her later years, Ida traveled to Italy, Israel, and Hawaii. Ida was the matriarch of her family, a source of strength and love for many, and she will be dearly missed by all who love her. Ida was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Philomena Montemarano, and by her son-in-law, John Sciacca. Ida is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Martin, her loving children, Christine Sciacca, Devra Olano, and Denise Sparnroft and her husband, Ronald, by her caring sister, Ann DiTonno, by her cherished grandchildren, Janette Sciacca-Hillis, Noelle Sciacca, Kristin Accorsi-Alvarez, David Sparnroft, and Jared Sparnroft, and by her adored great grandchildren, Jaden, Mia, Asher, Nolan, Liesl, and Evangeline. A funeral service will take place on Monday, March 9, 2020, starting at 11:15 AM, at the Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, located at 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, NJ 08857. Interment will follow at the Brig. General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Sunday, March 8, 2020 between the hours of 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals and Cremation Services.
