Carol Canavan

Carol Canavan, 85 of Morganville, New Jersey passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the Parker House in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Born May 3, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York, Carol was the daughter of the late John and Mary Schlusser. Carol was raised in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. She was a graduate of Bishop Malloy High School. Carol would meet Kenneth Canavan, and through the effort of Kenneth's persistence, Carol would agree to a date. Carol and Kenneth would fall in love and marry. They lived in Brooklyn, but after a couple of trips across the bridge, they would settle in the West Brighton section of Staten Island. Raising her children on Staten Island, Carol was a very active mother. She was devoted to her family. In her 40's Carol attended CUNY Staten Island, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics. Carol was so proud of this accomplishment and so was her family. In her spare time Carol enjoyed being in her garden, and also reading, she was even a member of a book club. A faithful woman, Carol was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church while living on Staten Island, and when Carol and Kenneth moved to Morganville she became a parishioner of St. Gabriel's Church. Carol was a loving and caring woman who will be missed deeply by all those that love her. Carol was predeceased by her son Chris, who passed away in 2010 and her brother Philip Schlusser and sister, Mary Regan. Carol is survived by her beloved husband of almost 62 years, Kenneth, by her loving children, Dr. Timothy P. Canavan and his wife Lisa, Deborah Canavan-Smith, Kenneth Canavan, Jr. and his wife Paula, and Nancy Johnston and her husband Bob, by her cherished grandchildren, Stephanie, Marissa, Cassandra, Samantha, Marrick, Keelan, Kelsey, Aidan, Kayleigh, Kenneth III, Kaitlyn, Megan, Jaclyn and by 4 adored great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, May 19, 2023, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Parker Life who took excellent care of Carol in her last years would be appreciated. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday at St. Gabriel's Historic Church located at 549 Rt 520 Marlboro, New Jersey 07746.
