Carlos Maldonado

Carlos Maldonado, 87 of Monroe, New Jersey passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023. Born Sunday, April 28, 1935 in Humacao, Puerto Rico, Carlos was the son of the late Angel Maldonado and Damasa Marquez. At the age of 17 Carlos moved to New York City. There he met the love of his life, Maria Padilla in the early 1950s. The couple would marry and raise their five children together in the Stapleton neighborhood of Staten Island. Carlos worked as a jeweler in New York City's Diamond District. Carlos was wonderfully creative and it showed in the many beautiful jewelry pieces he would craft. He has made jewelry for his children and other family members throughout the years. After retiring Carlos passed time working as a cab driver on Staten Island, he was known for his good will to his many regular customers. In 2005, Carlos and Maria would settle in Monroe, to be closer to family. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and adored spending time with his family. Carlos was an avid fishermen and enjoyed taking both his children and grandchildren fishing. He also had quite the green thumb, spending a lot of time on his vegetable garden. Carlos also loved his pet chihuahua dogs. Carlos was predeceased by his parents Angel and Damasa and by his siblings Jennie, Anna, and Felicita. Carlos is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Maria, by his loving children Maggie Martino and her husband Joseph, Carlos Jr. and his wife Natalie, Susan Hoffmann, Lisa Kaufer, and Lillian Vega, by his adoring grandchildren Eric Armstrong, Joseph Martino, Christopher and Carlos Maldonado, William Maldonado, Adam and Jeremy Kaufer, and Emilio, Brenden, and Christian Vega, by his seven adoring great grandchildren, and by his caring sister Gladys. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at St. Gabriels Historic Church located on Neuman Springs Rd, Marlboro, NJ 07746. Entombment will follow at St. Gabriels Cemetery, Marlboro, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the American Kidney Fund. http://www.kidneyfund.org/
