Betty Cepero

Betty Cepero, 66 of Old Bridge, New Jersey passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024, at home, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in 1958 in New York, New York, Betty was the daughter of Henry Leung and the late Ping Yip Leung. Betty was raised in the Lower East Side section of Manhattan. She would graduate from Brooklyn Tech High School, and then earn her undergraduate degree and Master's in Education from Hunter College. Betty would meet the love of her life, William Cepero while playing paddleball in the Village. The couple would begin a courtship that quickly turned into 37 years of marriage. They first resided in Queens, and they would start their family there, before settling in Old Bridge in 1993. Betty worked as a teacher for the New York City Board of Education. She first taught special education before spending the remainder of her career teaching 5th grade at P.S. 2 in New York. Betty enjoyed playing paddleball, and later became an avid pickleball player. She was a true athlete, riding her bike and completing the Five Boro Bike Tour multiple times. She enjoyed spending time at the Silver Linings Club in Old Bridge. Betty had an eye for art, and liked painting, along with going to Broadway shows. She also spent many quiet days at the beach with her husband, listening to the sound of the ocean. She enjoyed reading more books than she could keep track of, as well as spending her mornings gardening. Betty loved her animals, especially her dogs. Traveling was a passion of hers, and exploring new places to see all that the world offered. She was also a phenomenal cook, known for her infamous banana bread, and stealing hearts through the dishes she made and enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes. Betty was known for her quiet compassion, and her strong dedication to her family, friends, and the life she built for herself. She was loving and caring, and always gave a piece of her heart to all whom she met. She was so giving to others, whether it was a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, or even just a plate of cookies. Her soul was made to love others and she will be greatly missed by all those who love her. Betty was predeceased by her mother Ping Yip Leung. Betty is survived by her beloved husband William, by her loving children, Christopher and Christina, by her caring father Henry Leung, by her caring siblings, Rose Leung, George Leung and his wife Imelda, Jeannie Leung and her husband Kin On, and Johnny Leung and his wife Jennifer, and by her nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey.
