Amalia Rosario

Amalia Rosario, of Old Bridge, NJ, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the age of 99, at Roosevelt Care Center in Old Bridge, New Jersey. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Born April 14, 1927, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Amalia was the daughter of the late Carlos and Josefina Bruno. After graduating from high school, she traveled to New York City aboard the SS Marine Tiger to join family members who had settled in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan. Determined to pursue her education, Amalia attended Hunter College, where she earned a bachelor's degree in education. She went on to fulfill her lifelong passion for teaching in New York City public schools. Amalia loved being a teacher and took great pride in helping her students learn and grow. Her dedication, patience, and caring nature made a lasting impact on the many young lives she touched throughout her career. Through a group blind date arranged by a friend, Amalia met Peter Rosario. While Peter immediately knew she was someone special, it took a little time and persistence to convince Amalia that he was the right person for her. Fortunately, she said yes, and together they embarked on a remarkable journey of love, devotion, and happiness that lasted for more than 70 years. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership and a source of strength, joy, and inspiration to all who knew them. Amalia and Peter purchased their first and only home in New City, New York, where they lived for more than 56 years. There, they raised their two children and built a lifetime of cherished memories together. Although she loved teaching, Amalia chose to leave her career to devote herself fully to her family and home. She embraced the role of wife, mother, and homemaker with unwavering love and dedication, finding her greatest fulfillment in caring for those she loved. Through her selflessness, warmth, and devotion, she created a home filled with love, comfort, and support for her family. She will be remembered for her caring heart, selfless nature, and endless love. She was a wonderful role model whose kindness, strength, and generosity touched everyone who knew her. Through her example, she taught the values of compassion, family, and putting others before oneself. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the countless lives she enriched with her love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Amalia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter; her parents, Carlos, and Josefina; and her loving siblings, Charles, Laura, Haydee, and Johnny. She cherished each of them deeply and carried their love and memories with her throughout her life. Amalia is survived by her loving children, Diane Cahill and her husband, Brian; Peter Rosario and his wife, Dawn; her caring sister, Evelyn Guidali; her cherished grandchildren, Laura Compton and her husband, Michael, Daniel Cahill and his wife, Mary, and Peter T. Rosario; her adored great-grandchildren, Kieran, Paige, Isla, Callan, and Elowen. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis of Assisi, 128 Parrott Road, West Nyack NY 10994 on Wednesday at 10:00am.
