Salvatore P. Passalaqua, Sr., 74 of Matawan, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 19, 2020, with his family. Sal was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1946. Sal served his country proudly after being drafted into the US Army, serving in Seoul, Korea in the Signal Corps from 1965-1967, during the Vietnam War. After returning from South Korea, he married his High School sweetheart Francine. As an electrician, Sal started to working at the New York City Transit Authority in 1967, as a car maintainer, moving on up to supervisor at the Coney Island Overhaul Shop retiring in 1992 after 25 years. After retiring, he started a small side business, washing windows in residential homes, with word of mouth this side business grew into many, many customers. He would always find a side job to make money, whether it was painting or doing small electrical jobs. Sal was a huge fan of Doo Wop music, The NY Rangers and the San Francisco 49ers. The one thing that he enjoyed the most was being with his family and friends. He was able to spend the last week of his life with all his family at the shore in Wildwood on their “Annual Family Summer Vacation”. Sal always made all his friends he met feel like family. Sal was always a hard worker and instilled those values in his children. Sal is survived by his wife of 52 years, Fran Passalaqua, his children, Karen (Robert) Aperawic and Sal P. Passalaqua, Jr; grandchildren, Cristian Aperawic, Justin Aperawic, Brianna Aperawic and Alyna Passalaqua; sister in law, Ellen Passalaqua, nephew, Frank (Maria) Passalaqua; great nephews, Frank and Daniel Passalaqua. Sal will certainly be missed by all he was a very strong man and never complained once about all his health issues. He was a warm hearted, gentle soul a “Legend”. In lieu of flowers family requests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday at Most Holy Redeemer Church located at 133 Amboy Road Matawan, NJ 07747. Followed by an interment at Ernst Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey. During the current phase of reopening because of the Covid-19 Pandemic a maximum of 60 people are allowed in the funeral home wearing masks. Please limit your time spent inside the funeral home when paying your respects to the Passalaqua family, so that others have to opportunity to enter as well.
