Marie P Villas

November 13, 1933 - April 3, 2020

Marie P. Villas, know to her loved ones as Philo, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 from diabetic complications and went home to The Lord on April 3, 2020. She was born on November 13, 1933 in Haiti and emigrated to America in 1971 to later proudly become an American citizen and took her civic duties and voting rights seriously. She loved her new home in Brooklyn, New York and lived up to the ideals of America throughout her life. She married early in life, divorced, and became a devoted single parent. She independently raised her 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters, and a young cousin raised as another daughter. She impressed upon each of them the values of faith, family first, education being trans-formative, and strong morals by which they lived. She was blessed to see her children and grandchildren achieve the American Dream as professional involved in medicine, engineering, law, teaching, among others and contribute to this great country of ours. While raising her family, she also cared for her nieces, nephews, sisters, brothers, neighbors, friends, acquaintances and even strangers in need. As a childcare specialist, she was a part of Dr. & Mrs. Wolf and Mr. & Mrs. Dominic's families to help care for their children. Their families remained close to her over the years, and she cherished their children and grandchildren. As a loyal and devout practicing Catholic, she exemplified the life of Christianity through her deeds and actions as well as her unconditional love and support to others who have been fortunate to be in her life or cross her path. She would rather go hungry than miss tithing to her church, Holy St. Innocent in Brooklyn, NY and she would give her last dollar to anyone in need without hesitation. Her passion in life was to influence others positively and ease others' pain and suffering to the extent she could. She was witty, loved music, treasured her loved ones, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends over delicious meals, conversations, and laughter. She always preached others to live their lives in accordance to one of her favorite Bible verses, Ephesians 4:32 - "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ." And so, move forward with her legacy to make this world a better place to the extent you can as the fight for social justice, women's rights and equality, and voting rights continues. Given the restrictions with the current crisis, the funeral service will be limited and held at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia, Home for Funerals and Cremation Services, Old Bridge NJ on April 14, 2020, with eight (8) people inside at a time. She will be laid to rest at Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please join in the fight for a cure with donations to the Diabetes Research Institute https://diabetesresearch.org or American Diabetes Association https://diabetes.org A memorial service honoring her life will be held at a later determined date.
