Helen Mellon

August 25, 1942 - July 31, 2020

Helen Mellon, 77 of Old Bridge, New Jersey passed away, surrounded by the love of her family, on Friday, July 31, 2020, at the home of her daughter, in Waretown, New Jersey. Born Tuesday, August 25, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York, Helen was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine Jones. Raised in Brooklyn Helen was always a care giver to those around her. After starting a family of her own, Helen raised her children in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. While in Brooklyn Helen was a member of Catholic Charities and a parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Helen worked in sales at Macy's department store in the Kings Plaza Mall. Fifteen years ago Helen moved to Old Bridge, NJ to be closer to family. While living in Old Bridge Helen worked for Easter Seals in East Brunswick. Continuing a tradition of helping others, Helen was always taking care of her fellow residents at Maher Manor. In her spare time Helen enjoyed playing Bingo, and also taking trips to Atlantic City to play the slot machines. Helen was a caring and loving woman who will be deeply missed by all those that loved her. Helen was predeceased by her longtime companion, Joseph Howard. Helen is survived by her loving children, Richard Mellon and his wife Laura, Carole Popp and her husband Michael, James Mellon and his wife Dorothy, and Barbara Lombardi and her husband Gerard, by her 10 cherished grandchildren, and by her 4 adoring great grandchildren. A Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service located at 3377 US Highway 9 Old Bridge, New Jersey 08857. Entombment will be in Marlboro Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey. During the current phase of reopening during the COVID-19 pandemic the guidelines allow for a maximum of 50 people in the funeral home at any given time. After paying your respects to the family we request that you limit your time spent inside the funeral home to allow for others to come in to pay their respects.
