Gene F Sower

February 18, 1935 - August 20, 2016

Gene F. Sower, 81 of Old Bridge, NJ and a longtime resident of Edison, NJ passed away at his home on August 21, 2016. Gene was born in Aurora, Illinois on February 18th, 1935 and was the son of the late Henry and Hazel (Blume) Sower and brother of the late Paul. He spent most of his childhood growing up on a farm in Baroda Michigan. Gene served in the US Army from 1955 through 1957. After his discharge, Gene, a shy and quiet man, uncharacteristically arrived in Brooklyn, NY to meet his pen-pal girlfriend Ann Krackow and he never left. Only five months later the two were married and have spent the last 58 years in wedded bliss, truly partners and lifelong soulmates. Gene retired in 1993 from Bellcore ( formerly Bell Labs) as a computer operator. Prior to his career as a computer operator he worked for a Life Insurance business. Gene enjoyed watching baseball and had an impressive baseball card collection. In the past he also enjoyed weightlifting, health food and vitamins, time outdoors in the sun and an occasional Pabst Blue Ribbon. Gene is survived by his adoring wife, Ann; his son and, Gene and daughter in law Nina of Montclair; daughter Virginia Alfaro of Howell; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Joseph Phillips of Ewing; and daughter and son-in-law Denise and Mark Csordos of Old Bridge. He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren: Brittany, Ashley, Sam, Amanda, Alyssa, Emily and Connor as well as one great grand-daughter, Ava. A Memorial Celebration of Gene�s life will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 4-7 pm at the Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, NJ A private family veteran military service burial will be held at a later date.
