Anne Murray - Duso

February 1, 1922 - January 21, 2020

Anne Murray Duso, age 97, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2020, at Centra State Medical Center in Freehold, NJ after a brief illness. Anne was born on February 1, 1922 to Irish immigrants, Mary (Farrell) and John McGreevy, in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, NY. Her parents later moved to East Flatbush, where Anne continued to live, work and eventually raise her family in the home in which she was raised. Upon graduation from Girls Commercial High School, Anne began a long and successful career with NY Telephone, NYNEX, eventually retiring after forty-three years of service as a customer traffic manager with Verizon during which time she balanced her career and family flawlessly as a woman before her time. In August 1943, Anne married the love of her life, Joseph T. Murray, who was then a soldier in the US Army stationed in Bangor, Maine. Sadly, he passed away in 1976 at the age of 56. Upon his death, Anne courageously sold her home in Brooklyn and in 1977 migrated to Manalapan, NJ, all the while commuting to work in either Brooklyn or Staten Island and taking brief vacations to her home in Florida, where she eventually met Robert Duso, whom she married in 1988. She then divided her time between Florida and New Jersey, never wanting to be away from her children and grandchildren for too long. Anne is predeceased in death by her loving husband, Joseph T. Murray; her parents, Mary and John McGreevy; her sisters Mary and Helen McGreevy; and her brothers, John (Margaret) and Joseph (Loretto) McGreevy. She is survived by her husband, Robert Duso and her loving and devoted children Joseph (Claire Sutherland) Murray and Patricia Greene. She will always and forever be affectionately known as 'GranMommy' to her grandchildren, Richard Greene, Kristen (Daniel Salfas), Erin (Kristopher Kapinos); and Jodie (James Rossi) and by her great grandchildren, Ryan, James, Haley, Gavin, Marissa and Connor. She will be forever missed as a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mentor and as an example of enduring courage, strength and complete and utter selfless love. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday, January 27, 2020 at the Michel Hegarty/John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, NJ 08857. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at the St. Thomas More Church, 186 Gordons Corner Road, Manalapan, NJ 07726.
