Ms. Althea Veronica Wyatt, age 88, passed away early Friday morning May 22, 2020 at Madison Center in Matawan, NJ after several years of declining health. Ms Wyatt was born September 18, 1931 in Linstead, St. Catherine parish, Jamaica West Indies, to Stella L. Wyatt and Frank M. Wyatt. Althea, the youngest of three siblings, was blessed to grow up in a close-knit, loving and caring family that nurtured and supported her in every feasible way. From the time of her birth in picturesque Linstead, to her formative years growing up along the translucent, aquamarine waters of Buff Bay, to her young adult years living in the vibrant, dynamic capital of Kingston, Althea always demonstrated an uncompromising zest for life. Althea attended high school in Port Antonio, Jamaica and graduated circa 1948. After completion of her high school studies, Ms. Wyatt advanced her academic and professional aspirations by attending and graduating from a Commercial Business School. After working for a number of years in Kingston Althea relocated to the United States in 1962. In 1962 Althea's impressive professional credentials proved beneficial when she acquired the position of a Visa Officer at the Jamaican Consulate located in the well -known PAN AM building in Manhattan, NY. At the consulate Althea's assiduous dedication to her job, no- nonsense disposition and sharp wit earned her the admiration and respect of her colleagues. In 1978 Althea transitioned her career into Commercial Insurance and began working at Goodrich/Johnson Brokerage in Manhattan, NY as an Executive Administrative Assistant. After 18 years of dedicated and distinguished service for the company Ms. Wyatt retired in 1996. Ms. Wyatt was preceded in her passing by her loving parents, Frank and Stella Wyatt; her beloved sister Cynthia Wyatt; her caring sister in law Imogene Wyatt; and a host of Aunts and Uncles and good friend Evelyn Venore of Matawan, NJ. She is survived by her adoring and devoted daughter Sharon Wyatt Rodriguez, of Old Bridge New Jersey; her loving brother Louis L. Wyatt of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; her nephews Derek M. From her idyllic childhood in Jamaica until her passing, Althea, a woman of tremendous faith, was the exemplification of quiet strength, independence and fortitude. An inexorable will that defined the very core of her very existence served her well during times of prosperity and adversity. The pride, dignity and confidence that emanated from her very being was palpable to anyone who had an opportunity to spend time in her presence; however, beneath a sometimes serious countenance was a beautiful smile that resonated love, kindness, warmth and generosity of spirit. Althea loved cooking, traveling, listening to music and spending time with her family and friends. Her greatest joy was the relationship that she shared with her devoted daughter Sharon. The love that existed between these two amazing women was and is beyond description. Althea will eternally be remembered as an adoring daughter, a devoted mother, a caring sister, a special aunt, and a great friend. Her kindness, compassion and youthful exuberance, will be greatly missed by her family and friends and the memories of this special woman will live on forever in the hearts and minds of her loved ones.
