Yu Tsaan Chin

We are heartbroken to announce the unexpected passing of our beloved father, husband and grandfather, Yu Tsaan Chin, 72 of Old Bridge, NJ. He passed away peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2022 surrounded by his family and friends. Born July 14, 1950 in Guangzhou, China, he was the son of the late Ying Yuen Chin and Au Shui Lin Chin. Yu Tsaan grew up in a big loving household and was the second to the youngest of 4 siblings. He would meet Siu Mui when they were 15 years old and go on to marry 12 years later. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1976 and lived in both New York City and New Jersey with their children. Yu Tsaan was a master chef and loved cooking. He started out as a dishwasher at a small take-out restaurant in Manhattan. After many years of hard work, while putting in 12-16 hour workdays, Yu Tsaan saved enough money to eventually purchase several Chinese restaurants alongside Siu Mui. He served as a mentor for many relatives whom eventually went on to owning their own restaurants. His work ethic was truly exceptional and he was constantly focused on providing for his family, never taking any vacation or days off. Yu Tsaan was truly the hardest working man we knew. Post retirement he was traveling around providing his knowledge and expertise to restaurant owners. In his spare time, Yu Tsaan enjoyed playing Chinese chess, spending time with family, and was known for always creating innovative makeshift household projects around the house. In addition to 4 siblings (Wai Kwun Chin, Ru Jing Chin, Waihan Chin and Yue Him Chin), and Bao Qin Zhao, Yu Tsaan is survived by Siu Mui, by his loving children, Pam Altberg and her husband Elliott, Ray Chin and his wife Susan, Christina Zhao and Jaiyu Zhao and her husband Calvin, and by his cherished grandchildren, Zoe, Eason and Chase. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey. Entombment will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday at Marlboro Memorial Cemetery located at 361 HWY 79 Morganville, New Jersey 07751.
