Wilma Dunbar

Sweet Home Alabama, the birthplace of Wilma Ann Cade Sanders Dunbar. Wilma was born to the late Rosanna Sanders and Murl Dobynes in Hale County, AL. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Bethlehem Baptist Church, Dolomite, AL under the leadership of Rev A.J. Sanders. As a young girl, she was very active in her Church. Attending Sunday school every Sunday and she enjoyed singing in the Junior Choir. Wilma studied in the Jefferson County School System of Birmingham, AL. She completed her High School Studies at Westfield High School, and was honored to be a member of the graduate class of 1964. Many friendships were developed there, some were lifelong friends. After graduation she got a job in the Joy Young restaurant in downtown, Birmingham. Wilma took a big step and moved to New York in 1965. She took advantage of job opportunities and went to work at The Dry Cleaners, Ideal Toys and a few others establishments. In 1971 Wilma met and married the love of her life, Trevor Dunbar from the Island of Jamaica. Later she enrolled at the Computer Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. and upon completing her studies, she took a job with Dependable List. After a few years there she moved on to Columbia University purchasing department until her health started to decline. In 1998 Trevor moved his Family to Parlin, N.J. When Wilma’s health improved, she joined a group called Ladies of Distinction. This group was on the go. They had monthly meetings, attended Broadway shows, weekend Rodeos and sometimes trips to Pennsylvania and she truly enjoyed those PO’KE’NO games. Wilma departed this earthly life and entered into eternal life on Friday, March 8, 2024. She braved the pains of life. She fought a good fight. A long and tedious fight one that took her strength and her taste for being an integral part of this world. Know that she didn’t give up nor did she give out. She gave over to the ultimate love of God (for he only takes the best, the ones that are ready). Wilma began a new life in a new place, with an everlasting love. Proceeding her in death; her beloved daughter, Loree L. Hill ; mother Rosanna Sanders; father, Murl Dobynes; Grandparents, Jack and Sarah Sanders; Brother Eddie L. Sanders; Sister, Linda Moses. Left to cherish her memories: Loving and devoted Husband; Trevor Dunbar; Beloved Son; Jay (Madelyn) Dunbar; Granddaughter; Brianna Dunbar; Grandson; Chase Dunbar, Sisters; Martha Sanders Johnson of Hueytown, AL; Edna (Melvin) Chappell of Hueytown, AL; Sandra Rice of College Park, GA, Sisters-in-Law; Coleen Wilson of Hempstead, N.Y; Dahalia Dunbar of Little Neck, N.Y.; Katie Sanders of Roosevelt, AL, and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. A Funeral service will be at 9:30 AM on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service located at 3377 US Highway 9 Old Bridge, New Jersey 08857. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery immediately following the service. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey.
