Richard Gierolewicz

Richard Gierolewicz, known by his loved ones and friends as Rick, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024, in Holmdel, New Jersey at the age of 62. Rick was predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Robert Gierolewicz, and his father-in-law, Vincent George. Rick is survived by his wife of 28 years, Joyce George Gierolewicz, siblings Susan and Robert Gierolewicz, nephews Grayson and Ethan Librie, niece Mariele Librie, mother-in-law, Shirley George, his Jerzee Eight Brothers and golfing family, numerous colleagues and friends at NJ Transit and his Furbaby "Kitty". Rick was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, grew up in Old Bridge and has resided with Joyce at their home in Matawan for the last 28 years. Rick has had a long and distinguished career spanning nearly 40 years at New Jersey Transit. In his current position as Director of Terminal Operations, he was responsible for managing the busy Route 9 Service Corridor and Terminal Operation service into New York City. He was a dedicated employee who loved making things better for the customer and his employees alike. Rick was widely respected and was the go-to person when it came to any issue related to the Route 9 Corridor and its potential impact on the NJ Transit Bus service. Rick's legacy at work includes stories such as rescuing a woman and her young family from their stranded vehicle on the Garden State Parkway during a blizzard that crippled the state for three days back in 2009/2010. Rick loved telling jokes and making those around him laugh, he had a special talent for lightening the mood in any room he was in and always had a kind word or helpful gesture for those around him. Rick was a huge Giants fan who like many others, his spirits and hopes rose and fell with each passing season. Rick loved telling jokes and making those around him laugh. He loved animals and routinely took care of stray cats in the neighborhood, even setting up a heated gazebo in his yard as shelter for the winter. There will be a viewing on Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 4:00 -9:00 PM at the Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, NJ. The Funeral Service will be held the following day, Friday, June 28th at 10:30 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 18 South Street, Spotswood, NJ before concluding with a burial at 12:30PM in the Graceland Memorial Park, 1900 Galloping Hill Road, Kenilworth, NJ.
