Peter J Rosario

Peter Rosario, 92, of New City, NY and recently Old Bridge, New Jersey passed away early Sunday, January 15, 2023. Born August 27, 1930 in New York, NY, Peter was the son of the late Pedro and Tomasa (Espada) Rosario. After graduating from Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, he went on to earn his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education from New York University. He started his teaching career only to find himself ‘joining’ the United States Army. He was stationed at Ft. Myer in Arlington, VA. He earned the National Defense Service Medal. Peter met the love of his life, Amalia (Bruno), on a blind date while they were both in college. They were married in 1953 and spent 70 wonderful years together. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Peter and Amalia moved to the Bronx. Peter resumed his 38-year teaching and administrative career spending most of his teaching and supervisory years at Christopher Columbus High School, Bronx, NY. He also was an associate professor at his alma mater NYU for many years. Peter and Amalia bought their first and only house in New City, NY where they raised their two children. Peter was proud of his green thumb, quite an accomplishment for a boy growing up in NYC. Often you would find him outside working on his pristine lawn and garden. No dandelions were to be found on his property. He enjoyed his Friday night bowling leagues for over 40 years. He kept active by participating in half marathons whenever he had the chance. Peter was an avid reader. His favorites were about WWII, the Civil War, and spy novels. His library card was replaced several times from so much usage. He also enjoyed doing the NY Times crossword puzzles (in pen). After retiring, Peter and Amalia traveled all over the world. Peter would research and plan each trip down to the last detail. Occasionally Peter would book a tour and was always able to supplement his knowledge from the tour guides. They were fortunate enough to travel and see two total solar eclipses. Peter was a family man, always finding moments to teach his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren something new. Peter was a loving and caring man who will be missed by all those blessed to have known him. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Pedro and Tomasa Rosario and his sister Maria Bowen. Peter is survived by his wife Amalia; his children, Diane and her husband Brian Cahill, Peter and his wife Dawn; his grandchildren Laura and her husband Michael Compton, Daniel Cahill and his wife Mary, and Peter Rosario; and his great-grandchildren Kieran, Paige, Isla, and Callan. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 on Friday at Saint Francis of Assisi Church located at 128 Parrott Rd, West Nyack, NY 10994. Interment will take place following mass at Saint Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
