Mary Greene

Mary Irma Elizabeth Greene, 83 of New Egypt, New Jersey passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at CentraState Medical Center. Born Saturday, April 27, 1940 in the Bronx, New York, Mary was the daughter of the late James and Mary Dermody. Mary was raised in the Bronx. She was a graduate of Thevenet Hall Academy in New York. After high school, Mary furthered her education by earning her RN from St. Vincent's Nursing School in New York City. Mary enjoyed spending her summers at the Jersey Shore, and it was during one of those summers, she would meet the love of her life, Roland Greene. The couple married and began their family in Brooklyn in 1971. A few short years later they settled in Old Bridge to raise their four children. Mary was a devout Catholic and long time parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. If you knew Mary, you know she called it like it was. She didn't dodge difficult discussions and ensured that you understood her point of view, regardless if you agreed or not. She prioritized education for her children and enjoyed the lively debates that ensued from the education she fostered. She worked as a Registered Nurse at several hospitals and was a leader within multiple departments including ICU/CCR/ and Radiology. She took tremendous pride in the care she provided to her patients throughout her years as a nurse. Mary worked until she was 74, retiring to spend time traveling with her husband Roland and friends. When Mary wasn't working, she enjoyed reading, watching her favorite TV shows, and she loved playing games like Pinochle, Monopoly and Scrabble with family, despite often losing to her grandchildren. Family, that was Mary's biggest joy and love. She loved every minute she spent surrounded by her family, and will be deeply missed by all those that were blessed to have her in their lives. Mary was predeceased by her parents, James and Mary Dermody, and by her sister and brother in law, Josephine and Joe Sieczkowski. Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Roland, by her loving children, James and his wife Jeannie Giordano, Kerianne Stemmler and her husband Paul, Thomas and his wife Christine, and Andrew and his wife Pamela; by her caring sisters, Rita Kasney and her husband Michael, and Theresa Liefke; by her cherished grandchildren, Rayanne, Gemma, Rebecca, Astrid, Bridget, Jude, Kevin, Lucy, Skye, Ella, Ryan, and Keegan, and by many loving nieces and nephews.
