Joseph Schneider

Joseph Schneider, 95, of Matawan, New Jersey, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Born Saturday, October 5, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York, Joseph was the son of the late Louis and Margaret Schneider. Joseph was raised in South Brooklyn, now Cobble Hill. He was a graduate of St. Francis High School. He met and married the love of his life, Jean, and together they started a family, eventually settling in the New Dorp neighborhood on Staten Island. Later they moved to Matawan, NJ to be closer to his family Joseph had a long and successful career at Citibank for twenty-two years,and subsequently, he cherished working alongside his son Bill for over 35 years at Commercial Resources Corp. In addition, he was the proud owner of the Silver Fox Restaurant in Weehawken, NJ and the Railhead Commuter Bar in the Hoboken Terminal in Hoboken, New Jersey. He owned and operated the Railhead for over 30 years. Joseph was a true entrepreneur, involved in many ventures throughout his life and never fully retired. Joseph was a devout Catholic who often attended daily Mass. He was a hard worker, always spending time at one of his businesses. When he had downtime, he enjoyed going to the racetrack to watch the races and even owned racehorses. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him. Joseph was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jean; his sons, Joseph, Dennis, and John; and his siblings, Rosemary, Frances, Edna, Clarice, and Louis. Joseph is survived by his sons, William (Maureen) and Thomas; his daughters-in-law, Mary, Eileen, and Roxanne; his grandchildren, Kerry, Kevin (Donnamarie), Joseph (Rachel) Kaitlyn ( Robert), Dennis (Dominika), Danielle, Kathleen(Lou) and Mary(Phillip), Robbie, Thomas (Cristi) Matthew, and James; Erin (Dimitri) and his great-grandchildren, Hannah, Colton, and Ryan. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday at Most Holy Redeemer Church, located at 133 Amboy Road, Matawan, New Jersey 07747. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
