Jean Altobello

Jean Altobello, 87, of Parlin, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Born Friday, May 10,1935, in Brooklyn, New York, Jean was the first daughter of the late Joseph and Gemma Barresi. Born and raised in the Bensonhurst area of Brooklyn, Jean was a graduate of Lafayette High School. She would go on to raise her two children, James and Lynn, in the same neighborhood, until 1986 when the family moved to Parlin, NJ. Jean was an extremely upbeat and optimist person who knew how to have a good time and make the most out of life. Despite some difficult challenges along the way, Jean always maintained her happy disposition and remained young at heart. She absolutely loved to travel, which led her to her first career as a reservation agent for Delta Air Lines. Delta provided the way to visit numerous places in the U.S. and around the world, including Japan, Italy, and Paris. Jean was very cultural and loved to visit museums, attend music concerts and see Broadway shows. When given the chance, Jean enjoyed going to Atlantic City with friends. In her spare time, she would paint and watch her favorite baseball team, the New York Mets, as wells as golf, football and other sporting events. Jean's second career was at the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, as a secretary to the Assistant Prosecutors, which she loved doing. Jean understood the importance of family and friends, and would spend as much time as possible with them, whether talking on the phone, visiting, meeting for lunch, or getting together for holidays. She touched the lives of everyone she met, and developed many close friends over the years, whom she considered family. Jean will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Jean was predeceased by her loving parents, Joseph and Gemma, her cherished sister, Diana Feinberg, and caring brother in law, Sam Greco. Jean is survived by her beloved children, James and Lynn Altobello, her loving sister, Irene Greco, caring brother in law, Paul Feinberg, loving adopted daughter, Theresa Mordarski, her precious niece Carol Poveromo, and cherished nephews, David, Andy and Brian Feinberg; along with great nephews Nicholas, Aiden, Ellis, and Alexander, great niece Claire Diana, and great great nephew Nicholas; as well as her extended Bronx family, Tina, Vinny, and Joanne; adopted nieces Nicole and Melinda; plus all appropriate spouses; and Jean's many close, dear friends, especially Gail, Georgia, Angela, Ann, Kathy, Steph and Myra. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 1, 2022; and on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 9:15 AM to 10:15 AM, at the Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Funeral Home, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, NJ 08857. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on December 2, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Church of the Sacred Heart, 531 Washington Ave, South Amboy, NJ 08879.
