Irene Blum

Irene Blum, 85 of Manalapan, New Jersey, surrounded by the love of her family, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at the Care One at Holmdel in Holmdel, New Jersey. Born Tuesday, August 10, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York, Irene was the daughter of the late, Bruno and Edna Selenius. Irene was raised in Brooklyn, and was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School. She would meet Arthur Blum at a Sunset Park Ice Cream Parlor. After a courtship the couple would marry in 1954, and they remained inseparable until Arthur's passing in 2019. The couple would continue to live in Brooklyn after they married. They would raise their own children in Brooklyn. Irene worked for many years in banking, retiring from HSBC as a financial advisor. During these years, Irene was a member of the O'Brien Association in Brooklyn, a club where both she and Arthur liked to spend time. After retirement she would move to Manalapan to be closer to family. In her spare time, Irene enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, and going shopping at Macy's. She was a talented artist, and a family renowned singer. Irene always enjoyed a good prank and on trips to the Jersey Shore would always make it a point to go to the prank store in Cape May. More than anything Irene loved being surrounded by her large family, spending as much time with them as she could. Irene was a loving and caring woman who will be deeply missed by all those that love her. Irene was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Arthur, by her parents, Bruno and Edna Selenius, and by her sister Mildred Sorensen. Irene is survived by her loving children, Arleen Lauer and her husband Tony, Suzanne Cabot, Lori Zwilinske and her husband Jeff Rosenbaum, and Christina Kehoe and her husband Richard, and by her cherished 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey.
