Henry Kolb

Henry Kolb, 91, of Manchester, New Jersey passed away early Saturday morning, August 26, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Born Friday, April 8, 1932 in Paterson, New Jersey, Henry was the son of the late Henry and Caroline Kolb. Raised in Fairlawn, New Jersey, Henry graduated from Fairlawn High School. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the US Navy and served on the Kula Gulf CVE 108 carrier as a radio operator during the Korean War. He attended the New York School of Printing upon his discharge from the Navy and worked as a lynotyoe operator for Sweetman Typesetting Corporation. The job he was most proud of though was his position as a fire inspector for the State of New Jersey. Henry met the love of his life, Lorraine Kreis, when they were only children. The couple eventually married in 1953. They would go on to have three wonderful children and raise their family in Waldwick, New Jersey. Henry was an active member in his community. He was a volunteer firefighter for the town of Waldwick for over 30 years, becoming the Chief of the department. He was a member of the VFW and also volunteered at Sister Jean's Soup Kitchen in Atlantic City. Henry was an avid fan of the New York Mets and New York Jets. In his spare time, he could be found outside caring for his garden. Henry was a loving and kind man who will be missed by all those lucky to have known him. Henry is predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Lorraine. Henry is survived by his loving children Henry Kolb and his wife Debi, Karen Dunn and her husband Joe, and Steven Kolb and his husband Jay Inkpen, by his adoring grandchildren Billy, Joey, and Bobby Dunn, and Karina Kolb, and by his cherished grand-dog Donna. The family will receive friends from 4:00PM - 8:00PM on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Most Holy Redeemer Church located at 133 Amboy Rd, Matawan, NJ 07747.
