Gregory John Mazurek

Gregory John Mazurek, previous resident of Perth Amboy and Old Bridge, passed away on January 9, 2023 in Sebastian, FL. Gregory John Mazurek was born on July 4th, 1957 to Mary and Adolph 'Ace' Mazurek in Fords, NJ. Growing up with his older brothers and sister, Greg and his family quickly discovered his natural gift for music while playing the guitar. His adolescence was filled with leisurely playing baseball, learning new instruments, and writing songs with his perfect pitch. He graduated from Woodbridge Senior High School in 1976. In the early 1980s, Greg was the lead guitarist for The Flossie Band, a popular dance rock music group that performed all over the country, especially in local New Jersey bars and rock clubs. Their performances drew thousands of people on weekend nights, and the band quickly released its first 45 RPM Single 'Attitude' and 'Just Like Me'. In 1983, The Flossie Band won the 'Best Rock and Roll Band' competition, sponsored by The Aquarian Weekly national magazine. In 1985, they similarly won the 'Best Original New Jersey Rock Band' sponsored by radio station WDHA-FM (105.5 MHz). From 1989 to 1996, Greg performed in the well-known Jersey Shore rock band, Bystander. Bystander had previously performed with Bruce Springsteen, and their popularity spread across New York and the New Jersey metropolitan area. In 1995, the song 'Stranger Things Have Happened' broke the top ten charts in Italy, Germany, and Belgium. Bystander received the cover photo and leading articles in European magazines like The Rock Report in Belgium, Rock City News in Germany, and Rock Time in France. Greg was a guitar instructor to hundreds of students for over 25 years. He also frequently jammed with some of his closest friends. Aside from music, Greg loved eating ice cream in the summer, riding go-karts at Keansburg, and watching March of the Wooden Soldiers every Christmas. When he moved to Florida, Greg enjoyed driving his mustang and watching the ocean. Above all else, Greg's proudest achievement was being a father and raising his daughter, Noelle Capri Mazurek. Greg was a cancer survivor, and he was loved by many for his unwavering faith and kind soul. Gregory John Mazurek was predeceased by his wife Linda Jean Mazurek; mother, Mary Mazurek; father, Adolph 'Ace' Mazurek; brothers, Robert A. Mazurek and Eugene Mazurek; and mother-in-law, Jo Ann Badal. He is survived by his beloved daughter Noelle Capri Mazurek; sister Donna Butth; nephews Richard Rebeck and Michael Rebeck; sister in-law Sharon Badal; and several extended cousins, nieces, nephews, and supportive relatives. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey.
