Francis Matuszak

Francis 'Frank' Matuszak, a man of tremendous faith, strength, and heart, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on July 29, 1941, he was the cherished son of Anna (Callahan) and Francis Matuszak. On June 4, 1966, Frank married the love of his life, Jane Domo. Together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage, raising a family rooted in love, laughter, and deep faith. Jane affectionately called him 'Fat Boy,' a playful nickname that reflected their lifelong closeness and humor. Frank proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for two years, where he earned the Good Conduct Medal, the Sharpshooter Badge, and the Marksman Badge. He later served as a Sergeant with the New York City Transit Police for 22 years, dedicating his career to protecting others with integrity and courage. Outside of work, he was happiest on the ballfield or cheering for his beloved New York Yankees. A lifelong athlete, he enjoyed playing softball for many years, including with the 'Over the Hill Gang,' where he built lasting friendships and memories. He was proud of his Polish heritage and, while known to be a little stubborn at times, he was above all a wonderful human being whose kindness, humor, and generosity touched everyone who knew him. A man of strong Catholic faith, he lived his beliefs daily, offering quiet strength and guidance to family and friends. He also had a lifelong love of horse racing, enjoying the thrill of the track and the camaraderie it brought. Frank is survived by his devoted wife Jane; his children, Francis and his wife Sharon, Kristina and her husband Anthony, and Mary and her husband John; and his beloved grandchildren, Frankie, Tommy, Anna, Anthony, Kelli Ann, Michael, Ella, Julia, and Riley. He was a grandfather who loved to play and be a kid with his grandchildren - a trait that Jane jokingly claimed she hated when he came along to babysit. He was a brother to the late Bernadette and her husband Al, the late Walter and his wife Flo, and to his sister Eileen (widow of the late Joseph). Frank was also part of a large extended family through Jane, who was predeceased by her brother John ('Jack') and whose sisters Marjorie (late husband Carl) and Regina (husband Anthony) survive him. Frank will be remembered as a loving husband, a proud father, a playful and spirited grandfather, a decorated veteran, and a faithful friend. His legacy of love, humor, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
