Constance Zaferiou

Constance Zaferiou, 94 of Old Bridge, New Jersey passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022, at her home surrounded by the love of her family. Born Monday, January 2, 1928 in London, United Kingdom, Constance was the daughter of the late Arthur and Winifred Erne. During World War II, Constance would meet a young US Serviceman, and fall in love. Constance would eventually marry Apostolos Zaferiou and the couple would move to the Bronx. It was in the Bronx that they would start a family of their own. The family would relocate to Armonk, NY and Lawrenceville, NJ before settling in Old Bridge in December of 1959. Constance worked for NJ Bell for 25 years. She was drafting engineer, mapping out the locations of structures for the communications company. Constance was an active member of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy. There she was a member of the Philoptichos, a group completing charitable works in the community. She was also a member of the church choir and taught Sunday school for many years. In her spare time Constance would be found reading. She always had a book in her hands, and would often start reading another book before finishing the first. She loved reading the Bible. Constance also loved listening to Opera music and reading Shakespeare's works. Constance was a loving and caring woman who will be missed by all those that love her. Constance was predeceased by her husband Apostolos, by her son Antony, and by her sons in law, John Arno and William Paton. Constance is survived by her loving daughters, Irene Zaferiou-Arno, and Carolyn Paton, by her daughter in law Nancy, by her cherished grandchildren, Paul (Emily) Zaferiou, Alexander (Becca) Zaferiou, Teresa (William) Cardwell, Karen (James) Schmidt, Frederick Schiller (Hazel Hunt), Joseph (Candi) DeLauro, and by her adoring 10 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday between the hours of 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm, at the Michael Hegarty and John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals and Cremation Service. A funeral service will take place on Thursday at 11:00 am at St. Demetrios Church, 41-41 Wisteria St. Perth Amboy, NJ. Entombment to Follow at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge, NJ.
